Good location as it's near the Shanghai tower and various shopping malls and restaurants. Rooms are clean and functional. Quick check-in and checkout.

Breakfast has a wide selection but the taste is average, especially the Chinese food. Breakfast menu does not change much everyday and it gets boring if you stay for long.

Staff service is the worst part of this hotel. They looked like they didn't want to be there and when we asked questions, we were always met with an impatient look. Receptionist also did not fully inform us about the hotel's facilities/breakfast location and timing. Bellboy was also not responsive and quick to help with luggage.

This was my first stay at a Shangri-la hotel and did not leave with a good impression. Would not recommend to friends as there are definitely better choices out there

as Shangri-la circle members, we really enjoyed being its guests. we received a fresh fruit tray with assorted choices. we had 9 glass bottles of water daily. most brand hotels offer 2 daily. its location is prime with easy access to its many famous attractions and malls. the room is spacious, quiet and clean. bed is super comfortable. staff is professional and attentive. highly recommend.

After the underwhelming experience at check-in, Mr Sean Li reached out to my husband to find out more. Mr Li was polite, sincere and had exemplary demeanor befitting a 5 star hotel representative.

Sincere thanks to Sean for turning his experience around, and for the staff members who assisted in the 2nd check-in process, which enabled my husband to have a good rest ahead of his many meetings.

Room was well appointed, beautifully furnished and had great views of the city. Fantastic location to boot, and service recovery was sincere with no further agenda. No mention of altering my review was made, my feedback was gracefully accepted and worked upon (but I've voluntarily altered this review to give a fair reflection of the overall experience). Perhaps we will arrive at a more common timing the next stay! x

My husband flew in on a red eye 2 hours ago and is now on the sofa in their lobby despite paying for an extra half a night's stay, solely because it's hotel policy that half a night/early check-in means 10am. Even after the manager stepped in, the manager was adamant that the room will be released only at 8am.

Ridiculous. We have stayed in multiple luxury chains and hotels across the globe and it's the first time we've experienced such underwhelming hospitality at a supposed 5-star brand.

At check in, I asked to make sure we got rooms on the same floor, as we had two rooms: one for me and my wife and one for my daughter. Any good hotel would automatically put reservations with multiple rooms on the same floor. They said they didn't have any, but that they could give us one of the rooms as a twin room with two double beds. My wife and I decided to just keep the original reservation with two rooms each with king beds. After another 10-15 minutes of her fiddling around, the lady at check in says okay I have your rooms on the same floor. Great! One is with a King and the other is a twin room. NOT GREAT! After already waiting for 30 minutes to check in (no line for check in), we just said, "screw it" and went with the twin room with two double beds. The beds were not double beds. They were twin beds. The lack of the lady's ability to communicate in English was dreadful.

We decided to stay in one night and have drinks and something to eat in the Lobby Lounge. A huge waste of time and money. Way overpriced for horrible food. We waited more than 40 minutes for our food. The fries were completely cold, my chicken was lukewarm (decent flavor though), my wife's chicken was bland, and my daughter's pasta was bland. They said it would take 20 minutes to replace the fries. I told them to remove them from our bill and to send the manager over. The manager just reiterates the 20 minutes. Twenty minutes for fries is beyond ludicrous. They removed them from the bill and brought a dessert as an "apology", which turned out to be a slap in the face as it was a durian fruit dessert. I had to go back to the room to brush my teeth to get the disgusting flavor out of my mouth.

At check out the lady asked if my stay was good. I told her "no" and she responded "great to hear, thank you".

The level of English spoken by the staff is not appropriate for an international class hotel. Most of the time they stare back at you with blank faces when asking questions and they either go find someone to speak English with you or you must use Google translate.

The rooms have a dated feel to them, but the common areas of the hotel are very nice.

To me the only standout part of the hotel was the Health Club. They have a gym, jacuzzies, a Turkish sauna, a Finnish Sauna, and the pool.

If going to Shanghai as a tourist, I would never recommend anyone to stay in Pudong. Everyone said to stay there, but there is nothing to do there other than shopping. You're better off staying in the Puxi area of Shanghai.

Stayed at the Hotel for two nights. The location is great, the rooms a spacious and very well equiped. Unfortunately it wasn‘t cleaned properly (eg: dirty icetray, stains on the desk and the mirror, widows inside weren‘t clean). The selection at breakfast is huge and everything at a really high quality but it‘s way too crowded and doesn‘t feel like a 5 Star experience at all. What was most disapponting was the staff overall. The Service standard is at an absolute minimum. No greetings, no smiles, no friendly check in or check out, no good morning at breakfast. I worked at 5 star hotels myself, its not that hard. An exception was Vanessa from 36 floor: she was incredibly nice and gave us a little tour of the bar and restaurant including lots of background info. I would probably not book this hotel again
