Totally deserving of their 3 stars!

I managed to get a booking for Sorn for early Dec 2024, and to my surprise, they were upgraded to 3 stars in the Thailand Michelin Guide a week before my visit.

The overall ambience of the place is nice, and we were given a nice room with extremely good window views. The food was incredible and it also left me extremely full. I'm glad I had an earlier breakfast and skipped lunch that day. The beverage pairing was also great.

A must visit to Bangkok if you can secure one of their coveted seats..

Literally the best dining experience ever!! The food was amazing, the service was top tier, and the drink pairings were so unique! When we talk about our trip to Bangkok, this is separate from everything else because of how spectacular it was. If you’re looking for unique and authentic take on Southern Thai cuisine then you need to add this to your list. It’s been on my list for months and their three stars are so well-deserved.

If I could give the service option more than 5 stars I would. The service was extremely attentive and very rarely was there a wait for more than a moment where there was not more food coming, something being explained, or a refill incoming. When I received a reservation I expected to be sat at a counter of some type, but instead I had an entire section of the room to myself. The food was great and I was not disappointed at all. For being a three star Michelin restaurant I expected portions to be small enough that I would leave hungry and I was completely wrong.

Amazing fine dining experience.

I haven’t been impressed by a fine dining restaurant in a long long while because I find that most restaurants gunning for their stars end up gravitating towards the same-ish presentation / taste / concept. Reduction of this, emulsion of that, hey let’s dump loads of $$$ ingredients together and call it a day… It gets boring.

Sorn was food that actually tasted memorably good. I love Southern Thai food and this was the perfect blend of texture and flavor with great thought put into making the spices elevate (not hide!) the freshness of the raw ingredients used.

Chef was also gracious in accommodating our insanely late arrival (broken google calendar meant that our timezone didn’t adjust properly and we were nearly an hour late)

Top quality experience all round. Will be back.

Being a Michelin 3-star restaurant, and the only one in Thailand, is an amazing accomplishment. With that, the compliments and critiques should also commensurate. I'm giving my overall experience a 4/5 cognizant that my expectation was quite high.

I was super fortunate to secure a Friday night reservation via the reservation page - the night before! Probably due to last minute cancelation(?), but whatever the reason, I was ecstatic to secure 2 seats very last minute.

It was raining when our taxi pulled up outside the restaurant. The staff were already waiting outside the restaurants with umbrellas ready to ensure their guests don't get wet. That was amazing service and quite touching really.

We were then ushered upstairs in our own quite corner, where we ordered our set menu along with the 6-glass wine pairing to be shared between us.

We started with the amuse-bouche, and it was to die for! It was so amazing, with the explosive flavors. However, I feel this was the apex of the night.

I think Sorn has mastered seafood, Phuket lobster was also amazing, however, I think the meat dish was, relatively speaking, not as mind shattering.

I was also a bit disappointed by the wine pairing. I guess at 4,900 THB for the 6-glass, I shouldn't have mind blowing wine selection. Having said that, I didn't think some of the wine paired well with the food we had. One of the 6-glass was a rice lager, which I actually quite enjoyed. As we're sharing 1 pairing, the sommelier actually poured 2 full Champagne glass for us. This was a nice touch and appreciated. However, when I asked to see the beer label so I can purchase them in the future, there was clearly some lager remaining. The waitress then took the beer away, without offering the rest to us. I was not expecting it anyway so this is not a distractor to the experience, but I think it would've been a positive gesture to offer us the remaining beer. It doesn't cost much and would've added to the client experience.

Lastly, desserts. I must say they were a bit underwhelming. They weren't bad but were just ok. I'd expect a bit more from a Michelin 3-star restaurant.

Overall, I think the seafood was amazing, meat dishes were good, desserts and wine pairing were underwhelming.

The service and the ambience was absolutely top notch!
