“Taiko Chaya” is an izakaya (Japanese pub) restaurant located in Tokyo. This restaurant sources fresh seafood and offers a variety of izakaya-style dishes, including sashimi, at unbeatable prices. Taiko Chaya also provides entertainment for both domestic and international guests, such as a live show where they cut large tunas right in front of the guests. You know you are at the right place if you can see the large metal fish above the doorway entrance of Taiko Chaya.
Cuisine of Taiko Chaya
Taiko Chaya offers a variety of different seafood Izakaya menu items specializing in sashimi. Along with an endless amount of tuna to dine on, you can also get delicious food like negi toro (minced tuna with green onion), marinated tuna and – for a little variety – non-tuna items such as shrimp, mentaiko mayo (cod roe with mayonnaise), shirasu (whitebait) and some veggies.
Taiko Chaya’s Sushi Menu
You can also enjoy your meal with sushi rice that has a zesty taste to it or plain white rice. Omakase (chef’s choice) sushi is also offered at Taiko Chaya where the shop is extremely generous with the amount of juicy tuna, salmon, and macro that they give to guests on a wooden platter. There is no doubt that you will leave with a very full stomach if you come to Taiko Chaya!
Taiko Chaya’s Lunch buffet
The buffet at Taiko Chaya is only available during lunchtime, and there is an à la Carte menu that is offered during dinner time. Reservation options are possible during lunchtime though this restaurant fills up pretty quickly as people pop in and out almost every 15 to 20 minutes. For the lunch buffet, guests have a 50-minute time limit to fill their stomachs. Even if you are not a big fan of raw food, you can get oysters, scallops, salad, grilled dishes, and more.
“Maguro Kaitai show” Performance
At Taiko Chaya, you can even get a live show where you watch tuna from Toyosu supermarket being cut into numerous pieces before being auctioned off and eaten.(*As of March 30, 2025, the event is held every Friday (around 7pm) and Saturday (around 6:30pm).）
