Half tofu half chocolate dessert is brilliant~~  super good presentation , tasty food, very good service. they change menus seasonally, only the signature noodle is kept all the time. Vegetarian needs to book  4 days in advance.

I was very excited to hear they had launched an a la carte option, as I was still leery about the full scale omakase option but still wanted to try tofu goodness. As such, I enjoyed my dinner experience! The space itself was very calm and welcoming, and the menu not too long. The pictures in the ipad don't always show the real scale/size of the dishes though. Highlights for us were: The tofu sampler and the tofu somen with the prawn tempura. Even if it was pricey-- that somen dish is worth another visit alone. Bigger portion than expected and just plain delicious.
Worth it for a pleasant meal with care and attention to detail to a tasty ingredient.

Food is very unique, we never thought tofu can be prepared in so many ways, each dish has its owm distinct flavor or texture. Surely, a lot of thoughts has been put to create these dishes. There were many choices of organic wines as well. On top of that, they have the friendliest staffs sharing stories with us, we had a great time.

For food quality and the concept, it's good but for overall I personally feel soso although I'm the tofu lover. Here serves japanese cuisine specialize in TOFU things. I tried omakase tasting course at lunch. For the tofu things and the texture, really good. Overall food taste....too salty for me and my friend. Food presentation is okay as can be expected from Japanese restaurant. To compare for the price, portion, and variety of food... I think a bit pricey. Nice ambience and good service. Parking available nearby, try checking the info with the restaurant. Cash and credit card accepted.

A truly unique dining experience can be found here, a handsome, albeit tiny townhouse snuck in a small Soi behind the bustling Sathorn Road. The proprietor of this restaurant claims that they are the first Tofu Omakaze. And I have no real reason to doubt that.  In fact, have never heard of such a place until I came across Mihara Tofuten.

We went for a lunch set, which was a decent deal, by the way.  The price was acceptable, and we came away quite full.

The meal consisted of 5 savory courses, and one dessert, all of which had tofu in them, of at least some soy beans, as you would expect.

First to greet us was silky soft home-made tofu in delicate soy sauce topped with super fragrant sansho pepper. It was a fantastic start which also served to open up our palate.

Next came the so-called “Tofu Bento”, 3 mini courses packed inside a 3-layered bento, or rice box in Japanese.  The star of this course is Yuba or tofu skin.  We were told to start with the tofu salad in the middle, then the Yuba roll with wild unagi stuffing and last was Yuba Mille Feuille with maguro from Nagasaki.  It was good, but I was not blown away by this course if you asked me.

The 3rd course was a small piece of grilled sea bass in soy milk mixed with Japanese savory stock made from seaweed and smoked tuna fish, or “dashi”.  It is topped by crisp slices of fried Burdock roots which added some contrasting texture to the dish.  This, I really liked.

At this point, my friends and I were looking at each other and we were thinking about grabbing another bowl of noodle somewhere after this because we were nowhere near full, and we were more than half way through our lunch.  Well, we shouldn’t have been worried.  The next two courses saved the day.

The 4th course was a Japanese-style baked claypot rice, topped with grilled Japanese Sama fish. The rice was perfectly cooked. The fish slightly oily meat lent itself really well to grilling, worked fantastically as the topping.

Normally this would have been the end of the savory part of the meal, but we opted for the optional extra which was cold somen.  And I am glad we did.  The thin white noodle, cooked just right then chilled in iced water, offered springy and chewy texture and a refreshing taste.  It matched perfectly with the tofu dashi, the same one that I really liked in an earlier dish.

To finished the lunch off, we were served yummy and refreshing hoji cha soy milk gelato with some fruit compote.  We were also given choices between cold brew coffee or hoji cha.  I went with the coffee which was just perfect as an early afternoon drink.

So, if you are into Japanese food, and have an occasion to splurge a little, give this place a go.  Reservation is highly recommended as they are getting popular now.
