Japanese Kaiseki Restaurant in Kyoto

Reservation for "SEN"

[ 5 mins walk from Gojo Subway Station ]

“SEN” is a kaiseki-style Japanese restaurant located in Kyoto. This amazing restaurant is only five minutes away walking from Gojo station. Based on traditional tea ceremonies in Japanese culture, the idea of harmony and living in the present is given to each guest. This one Michelin-starred restaurant creates some of the best local dishes that can be found in Kyoto.

SEN's Cuisine

Fresh vegetables from Ohara’s waters and bamboo shoots from Tsukahara are some of the fresh ingredients used in that of SEN’s specialties. The food mimics the seasons outside as what guests see outside the windows of SEN can be noted in the cuisine. For example, in Spring as the cherry blossoms flourish, it can be noted that cherry petals float in the aperitifs, mimicking the scenery outside. Diners have a variety of options to choose from when it comes to their final course as they can feast on delicacies such as Takikomi-gohan, ramen, and so on.

Chef of SEN, Takeshi Sugisawa

The chef of SEN, Takeshi Sugisawa, has unique experience training under the likes of Kikunoi and Muromachi Wakuden before becoming head chef at a famous restaurant. After working as a head chef, he left for England to gain new experiences as a private chef and increase his knowledge. Upon returning to Japan, Chef Sugisawa opened his own restaurant, SEN.

SEN's Interior

In SEN, guests are encouraged to come dine if they are hoping to have a unique and serene experience. Located inside the Gojō-Yanaginobanba building, SEN has been established as a traditional style home that is styled like a Sukiya-zukuri interior that incorporates North European furniture. All guests are welcome to sit around the stylish counters or to dine in one of the private rooms that fit up to six people as they admire the minimalistic beauty surrounding them.
